Field Checking 101 in the Breitenbush Hwy 46 Timber Sale

On Saturday, May 25th join Cascadia Wildland’s volunteer WildCAT team for a full day of field checking in the Breitenbush Hwy 46 Timber Sale!

Register here to join!

Our field checking trainings cover the basics of timber sale monitoring, how to read timber sale proposal and what to look for when exploring a timber sale on the ground. We’ll spend the day exploring areas of threatened forest and learning about this vital fores-defense tactic. We will meet in Detroit, OR at 10:30am and caravan to the training location in the timber sale. This will be an all day training, finishing around 4pm.

More details about carpools and what to bring will be sent upon your registration!

More about the sale: The Highway 46 timber sale is located about six miles east of the town of Detroit, Oregon, within over 4,000 acres of forest surrounding the Breitenbush hot springs resort. The sale includes commercial thinning, fuels reduction, and clearcut-style management practices. Cascadia Wildlands has been participating in this sale in various capacities since its inception and has advocated for protections of older parcels and the dropping of all regeneration harvest (clearcut) in the sale. In July of 2018, the Forest Service announced a decision that they would postpone logging in all parcels of the project above 80 years old for further analysis about impacts to fish. This memorial day weekend we’ll return to explore some of the areas currently still protected, and even get to see patches of recovering forest after 2017 fires burned through the area. Registration available on our website!
