We need Oregon’s congressional delegation to stand up against the latest attack on Oregon’s last remaining old-growth forests. Tell your electeds to oppose HR 7603!
Unfortunately, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)’s western Oregon plan revision is not the only threat to Oregon’s remaining mature and old-growth forests. Representative Cliff Bentz introduced a bill – H.R. 7603 – the “O&C Renewal Act of 2026,” which would make timber production to fund county governments the primary purpose of public forests governed by the original O&C Act – the lands BLM manages. This bill would prioritize maximizing logging above all other values, weakening safeguards for fish and wildlife, shrinking stream protections, and opening vast areas of public forest to the kind of large-scale clearcutting that pushed species like coho salmon and northern spotted owls toward extinction in the first place.
It is essential that our elected leaders vocally oppose Rep. Bentz’s bill. Oregonians deserve better than a return to the destructive logging practices of the 1970s and ’80s. Send a message to Oregon’s congressional delegation today urging them to oppose H.R. 7603 and reject efforts to dismantle protections for our forests and watersheds.
