Comment Now: Western Oregon Needs a Conservation-Forward State Forest Management Plan
The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) is asking the public for input on its draft Forest Management Plan for state forests across western Oregon. This plan will guide management on 640,000 acres of state forests including the Tillamook, Clatsop, and Santiam for at least the next decade. These forests provide habitat for imperiled species, filter drinking water, absorb climate pollution, and offer recreation opportunities to Oregonians and visitors to our state. However, decades of damaging road-building and large-scale clearcuts throughout these public forests have put the species they support at risk and degraded precious waterways.
Take this opportunity to tell the ODF to protect and restore fish and wildlife habitat, support healthy ecosystems, and help fight climate change in western Oregon state forests! Here are two ways you can provide your input to the agency:
- Submit a written comment to ODF by 11:55 p.m. PST on June 30th. Use our template to get started, but be sure to personalize your message for the greatest impact.
- Register to testify at ODF’s virtual public hearing from 3–7 p.m. PST on June 25th. Check out these talking points to help craft your comments and keep it brief – you’ll only have two minutes to speak.
Thank you for speaking up for the future of western Oregon’s state forests!
