Tell the Feds to Stop Logging Mature Public Forests
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is at it again — on the heels of the Outlaw Ridge project, the agency announced another logging project in the Cascade foothills. Located outside the small town of Scio, Oregon, within the Thomas Creek and Crabtree Creek watersheds, the Lulay project plans to log 1,500 acres of 40- to 140-year-old forest. Recent WildCAT (Cascadia Action Team) field checking efforts found diverse, maturing forests with large legacy Doulgas firs measuring over five feet wide intermixed with grand firs, western red cedars, hemlocks, and healthy native plant understories. This project is targeting maturing, largely second growth forest with legacy old-growth trees throughout. The agency’s initial comment period concluded on February 9th, 2026. Comments continue to be accepted until a draft Environmental Assessment is published.
