SUMMARY:Hike Mt. June in the Hardesty Roadless Area
DESCRIPTION:Hardesty Roadless Area. Photo by Andrew Kumler.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRolling back the Roadless Rule puts some of Oregon’s most iconic places at risk\, including the largest roadless area to be found near Eugene: the Hardesty Mountain Roadless Area. Join us for a hike up Mt. June\, located within the at-risk Roadless area\, where we will traverse through diverse\, mature forest\, take in views\, and connect with like-minded advocates.   \n\n\n\nDescription of Hike: 3 miles round trip on a well maintained trail\, with some steep areas. 1000 feet of elevation gain. Carpools leave Eugene at 9am and we expect to get back to town around 3pm. \n\n\n\nPLEASE READ THIS LIBABILITY RELEASE FORM. Check the box below to indicate agreement. \n\n\n\nCarpools: Strongly encouraged! Use this form to coordinate rides with others. Always respect driver and passenger COVID and other health needs. Carpools will leave from central Eugene at 9:00am. \n\n\n\nAccessibility & Safety: This hike has the potential to encounter wildlife\, including unseen bee\, wasp or hornet nests — always respect wildlife\, and carry an epi-pen if you need one. The hike will happen in rain or shine (see below about what to bring)\, but we are still very much in the midst of the fire season. If there is an active fire in the area\, we will need to cancel or postpone. Please be fire aware: don’t park on dry grass\, toss cigarette butts\, etc.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nBathrooms: There are no toilets to use in the area we are hiking. Please use facilities at the carpool and/or come prepared to go outdoors.  \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nWhat We Provide: \n\n\n\n\nCascadia Wildlands staff with Wilderness First Responder training\, first aid kits\n\n\n\nSatellite phone in case of emergency\n\n\n\nBackground information on the Roadless Rule \n\n\n\nExtra water\n\n\n\nInformation and tips for writing Roadless Rule comments\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhat to Bring: \n\n\n\n\nAdditional items may be sent out via email following registration. \n\n\n\n\nComfortable day pack with the any or all of the recommended “Essentials”:\n\nExtra food/water/clothing;\n\n\n\nFlashlight and extra battery/bulb;\n\n\n\nLighter/matches in waterproof container;\n\n\n\nFirst-Aid kit;\n\n\n\nWhistle;\n\n\n\nPocket knife/Multi-Tool;\n\n\n\nFire starter/Candle;\n\n\n\nTwo heavy duty garbage bags;\n\n\n\nSunglasses and sunscreen;\n\n\n\nMap & Compass (and knowledge to use them);\n\n\n\nSpace/Emergency blanket;\n\n\n\nToilet paper and small trowel;\n\n\n\nFully charged cell phone and optional battery bank.\n\n\n\nlunch and snacks\n\n\n\nwater bottle and extra water\n\n\n\n\n\nClothing: Weather appropriate layers;\n\n\n\nSturdy\, ideally waterproof hiking boots with ankle support\n\n\n\nPersonal medications\n\n\n\nPaper bag or basket to carry edible mushrooms in (only pick em’ if you know em’!; optional)\n\n\n\nBinoculars (optional)\n\n\n\nNotebook and writing utensil (optional)\n\n\n\nCamera (optional)\n\n\n\nPlant/tree/wildlife ID books (optional)
