June 11 – The Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources votes 11-9 to advance S.140, the Wildfire Prevention Act, including an amendment proposed by Senator Mike Lee (UT) the night before that would nullify the 2001 Roadless Rule.
June 12 – A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to reinstall exhibits and signs related to climate change and slavery it had removed from parks and monuments across the country.
June 24 – (1) For the past year, Congress and the Trump administration have been using the Congressional Review Act to revoke land management plans and gut protections for public lands. Turning this strategy on its head, Cascadia Wildlands, represented by Silvix Resources, filed a lawsuit questioning the validity of the Bureau of Land Management’s 2016 Resource Management Plan for Western Oregon and challenging the Aloha Trout logging project. (2) Following revised NEPA regulations, the Bureau of Land Management’s Butte Falls Field Office, in southern Oregon, did not provide a draft environmental assessment for a proposed logging project, skipping the public feedback period. (3) Trump nominates Michael Chamberlain, director of a conservative watch-dog organization, to be director of the Office of Government Ethics.
